May quickly closed he laptop and wiped the tears from her face with the back of her hand as Pepper came in and angrily sat down on the bed. May stood from the desk and went to sit next to her. “You know,” she told Pepper, “He’s only trying to do what he thinks is right.”
“That’s what annoys me,” Pepper said. “It’s like he only ever does the right thing at the worst times!”
May laughed a little. “Trust me, I’ve been there.”
